Stop Guessing

Most people run into the same problems when dealing with moisture or mold:

  • You can't find a good mold inspector

  • You can't afford to keep checking every home.

  • You don't know what test is best to find an issue in your home.

This course gives you a structured way to evaluate your own home using the same principles professionals rely on.

This course was build by professionals, for you.

Think Like a Pro

You’ll learn how professionals think when they walk into a home, how to spot common moisture and mold issues, and how to accurately perform your own sampling, and when it's needed. Just as importantly, you’ll learn when something doesn’t require action.

And as a renter or buyer, this knowledge helps you:

  • Ask better questions

  • Communicate clearly with landlords, inspectors, contractors, realtors, etc.

  • Make decisions from a place of confidence, not fear.

What am I going to learn?

By the end of this course, you'll be better than the pro down the block.

Rachel

My journey into healthy building started over 15 years ago, when my aunt opened Green Depot, one of the first non-toxic building supply stores in the country. That early exposure opened my eyes to how deeply building materials affect health and air quality. Years later, a family member became seriously ill from toxic exposures in a poorly constructed apartment. That experience changed everything. I set out to build a non-toxic home for my own family—and dove headfirst into researching materials, systems, and healthier alternatives.

Even after we moved in, I realized that the deeper issues weren’t just about what you build with, but how you build it. I became increasingly focused on building science—how moisture moves, how walls dry, how HVAC systems should actually work. I took a job with a builder, read every book I could find, took shorter courses in key areas, and taught myself through both field experience and obsessive study. Most recently, I became a Certified Passive House Tradesperson in both Building Enclosure and Services, continuing to expand my ability to guide high-performance, low-tox homes from the inside out.

Today, through The Well Build™, I help homeowners and professionals make healthier, smarter decisions—whether they’re building new, renovating, or maintaining their home. My mission is simple: prevent building defects, avoid health risks, and create spaces that actually support well-being over time.

John Skelly

John’s journey into indoor environmental health began in 2003, working hands-on in the field with water damage cleanup and mold remediation.

Over time, he advanced into operations management at a full-service restoration company, gaining a deep understanding of both the technical and business sides of the industry. In 2010, he founded HNST Mold Inspections with a clear purpose: to provide independent, expert mold assessments—free from remediation upsells and one-size-fits-all testing.

Today, John is a Council-Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant and is widely regarded as a trusted authority in the field.
